On May 19, 2009 our two man team of Steve Wraith and Marcus Scarth from Aspen, CO reached the summit with our guides from High Himal. The leader of our group was none other than the esteemed Jyamchang Bhote, who led a relentless pursuit to guarantee our summit success. His family lead operation took care of us for 8 weeks in a manner that made us feel like we were/are a part of his family. The level of service and competence was exceeded only by our happiness with the way we were treated and supported.
Jyamchang Bhote is a highly qualified guide, with a list of courses, credentials, and summits that reads like an adventure novel, having successfully lead clients to the summit of Everest three times, as well as countless other summits. On the 10 day trek in to base camp our heads were constantly turning upward in every direction as he told us story after story of all the peaks he’d climbed and the safe return of his clients.
From an organizational standpoint, everything happened like clockwork, from flights, to food, scheduling, comfort, coordination, logistics, you name it. Jyamchang is a great communicator in addition to being a disciplined climber and businessman, ensuring a quality product and superb service.
On the mountain, the discipline continues, making sure we followed safety procedures as he evaluated our condition/strengths/weaknesses closely. He knew when we were feeling strong and when we weren’t, and he always had a solution to give us the best possible chance for success. On summit day he watched us like hawks and in moments of exhaustion was very close to lend a helping hand when needed. His attention to detail and safety were very strong. He always had his game face on when were climbing, meaning he was all business to help ensure safety and success.

Jyamchang and High Himal were simply amazing. We could not ask for a better guide and team to lead us to Island Peak (Imja Tse). Not only is Jyamchang a certified and very professional mountain guide, he has also good knowledge of the local history and environment of the Himalayan region. On top of this he has got a great sense of humor and loves to laugh.

We would like to thank High Himal for a terrific trip around Annapurna and climbing the Chulu West (6424 meters). Our guide Densa Bhote and our porters Tsering Bhote and Portan Bhote made our visit to Nepal an unforgettable experience. They were all good humoured and made good connections with all the locals along the path. Even if we were tourists and clients, we always felt hearty friendliness and welcomed as their friends. Densa is also a skilled and experienced climber.
We met Jyamchang this summer when he was working in Norway. He has been a very good organizer. Questions were always answered within a few hours –if he was not on expedition. We have been in good hands since the day we contacted him. Thank you very much!
